Is Emerson ok for a Boy's name, I've been reading alot that say's it's a Girl's name?

I am due early next year, and we are going to wait to find out the until the Birth. I had my heart set on Emerson for a Boy's name, but I am now not sure after reading a lot to say it is more of a Girl's name. Also, wondering what it may be shortened to as a Boy's name? Any advice/ opinions would be greatly appreciated!
