I think I understand it lol. I think that Frank woke up Donnie so he could live the 28 days to guide the "Artifact" back to Present Universe. And then when the artifact goes back to PU and kills Donnie, the 28 days we went through in the movie never happened. The people that died live. Donnie dies. The artifact went to another universe which caused all of the other people to die, so Frank woke Donnie up so he could guide it back since Donnie was most affected by the artifact...

Why don't you approach the subject first and ask him how he feels about what happened. Will you be upset if he thinks it was a mistake and would rather just have a friendship?
